Here is a welcome news from the railways, to its passengers. Now onwards the passengers from Trivandrum central will be spared from waiting in endless queues for buying train tickets. First Automatic Ticket Vending Machine (ATVM) has started functioning from Thampanoor railway station. Trivandrum central has become the first railway station to have such an innovation installed for the convenience of its passengers.
The machine can be operated by using a ‘Smart Card‘. Using this card we can buy second class tickets to anywhere in India and platform tickets too. The smart card costs Rs 100 to Rs 5000 and once it exhausted it can be recharged. At a time 4 tickets can be obtained from the ATVM. The smart card will be available from counter number 7.
The Smart Card has to be placed on a slot in the ATVM and user has to select the route and destination using the touch screen. After confirming the details ticket will be printed and delivered. Once the ticket is issued charge will be automatically debited from the smart card. The railway has appointed two officials for assisting the passengers in operating the machine.
Presently sleeper class and reservation tickets will not be available from ATVMs. There are two ATVMs at Trivandrum railway station – one placed near the main gate and the other at platform number 1. The railways has plans to install the 144 such machines under Trivandrum division.
